  1. Dear Claudio, this I love. You have once again, opened a door in my heart. Finzi is special, how could I forget his beautiful music. There is something very ‘English’ in his music, a sound which can only have been instilled in me by my father. That is another story for another day, perhaps in another place!

For a great part of his short life (only 55 years) Finzi lived in Gloucestershire, in Painswick. He died from what was then an incurable illness, Hodgkin’s disease, something I know about, as my wife was diagnosed with it in the late 1970’s. She survived (treatment took a massive toll on her) & it was life changing for all of us. However, she remains my lifelong companion.

Finzi was buried on May Hill between Gloucester City & Ross-on-Wye. It is a beautiful location, as we lived in Ross-on-Wye for over 5 years before returning to NI.

I’m writing this with bright sunshine streaming through the windows a real change from yesterday’s constant rain.

    1. Dear Ashley, thank you for your touching comment.
How true that art, and music in particular, can bring together people who live in distant worlds. Maybe I am an incurable optimist: I continue to think, and hope, that peace on Earth is still possible.
      A warm greeting.
