Great George Frideric Handel, who was born in Germany (Halle an der Saale), studied in Italy and later became the musician of the British monarchy. He never married to devote himself entirely to music. Mozart and Beethoven considered him the greatest of all. Tomorrow I will dedicate a second post to him.

Thank you, Claudio! The musical highlight at the end of the year, right up until my mid-teens was Handel’s Messiah. My Mother singing in the choir along with my Godparents, also an aunt, visiting from Manchester who usually sang with the Halle and my father conducting! And afterwards, tea and sandwiches and cake and the after-buzz of a glorious performance. I’ve not heard it through since then but if I was to hear it now I’d remember it. You could say that I was brought up on Handel. Wonderful memories!
